Horse gram Chutney(Kollu Chutney)

Method 1:


Ingredients Needed:

  • Horse gram: 1 cup
  • Small Onion: 10 nos
  • Garlic: 3 medium size
  • Gingelly Oil: 2 tbsp
  • Coriander seeds: 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds: 1 tsp
  • Red Chili: 3 Nos
  • Salt as needed
  • Curry leaves as needed
  • Tamarind: 1/2 lemon size

Instruction:

  1. Soak 1 cup of Horse gram for 30 mins and pressure cook it with 3 cups of water and 1 tsp salt for about 5 whistle, use the leftover water for grinding and making rasam.
  2. In saute pan, dry roast the coriander and red chilli with cumin seeds keep it aside, then using gingelly oil roast the garlic, onion, curry leaves and tomatoes until soft.
  3. Let it to cool, then add all the ingredients in blender with salt, tamarind and make a fine paste. Enjoy this chutney with hot rice.

Soak Kollu | horsegram in hot water for 30 mins

Add soaked kollu | horse gram in a Pressure Cooker

Add Salt

Add Turmeric Powder

Pressure Cook it for about 5 Whistle

In a pan heat Oil, Add in Garlic, Coriander Seeds, Cumin Seeds, Onion, Chili,
Tamarind, Optionally you can add,tomatoes) add with Kollu to make a chutney


Method 2:

Preparation time: 15 mins, Serving Size: 2

Ingredients Needed:

  • Horse gram: 1 cup
  • Small Onion: 5 to 7 nos
  • Garlic: 3 medium size
  • Chopped Ginger: 1 tsp
  • Oil: 2 tbsp
  • Urad Dal: 1 tbsp
  • Coriander seeds: 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds: 1 tsp
  • Chana Dal: 1 tbsp
  • Red Chili: 1 Nos
  • Green Chili: 1 Nos
  • Salt as needed
  • Turmeric powder as needed
  • Coriander leaves as needed
  • Curry leaves as needed
  • Tamarind: 1/2 lemon size
  • Chopped Coconut: 4 to 5 pcs

Instruction:

  1. First dry roast the horse gram and keep aside.
  2. Next in a same pan, add coriander seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, chana dal, and roast it.
  3. Next, add 2 tbsp oil, add chopped ginger, garlic, chilies and saute it, next add onion with some salt, turmeric powder and saute it until onion cook.
  4. Finally, add small amount of coriander leaves it is optional, coconut and tamarind with salt as needed.
  5. Cool it, add horse gram to a mixer jar without water and make a powder and then add other ingredients and make a paste by adding water little by little.
